Centrally located in Shizuoka City, Sumpu Castle was built in 1586 by Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu. Today the ruins serve as a park. In 1989 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Shizuoka City, the Southeast Tower of the castle, "Tatsumi Yagura", was reconstructed. Then, in April of 1996, the East Gate, "Higashi Gomon", was reconstructed and has been a popular spot for visitors.
